What does obedience to God have to do with with the wall in your life coming down?

  • Your wall comes down when your obedience intersects with God’s faithfulness. There is a purpose in being obedient to God. You wall comes down when your obedience intersects with God’s faithfulness.  It is what I call Holy Anticipation.  You obey until God is faithful. <>

  • How can the wall you face come down in your life?

BIBLE Joshua 6

  • Jericho tightly shut up <>
  • God’s promise, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.” JSH 6:2

    • Command 1: God tells Joshua to “see” <>
    • APP: What do you see? <>
    • APP: What does God “see?” <white harvest, marriage > forgiveness: faith failing > God sees humility: Sin > Conqueror
  • Joshua 6:9, “So”
    • “so” = Joshua obeyed
    • He obeyed before the walls came (6 days worth)
      • Holy Anticipation (See)
    • 6-19: Talks about all the obedience Joshua employed
    • The point of obedience is to prepare you for God moving.
    • Your obedience has a purpose, and that is for you to know Gods glory and faithfulness to you. Obedience is the holy anticipation to Gods faithfulness- his vision for your life.
  • Joshua 6:20-21a (The Walls fell down)
    • Walls collapsed downward and inward / run straight in
    • APP: The wall came down on God’s timing- not Joshua’s
    • ILL: The strange man: Joshua 5:14, “Neither, but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” <>

    • APP: God on his side! Reveal his glory to you!
    • Obedience is holy anticipation.
  • Joshua’s obedience crossed with God’s faithfulness and the wall came down! Obedience is Holy anticipating God’s faithfulness.


  • Wall of Fear
    • People don’t ruin their life. They waste their life. And God calls on us to lose our life.
    • Fear keeps you from (faith, obedience, tough conversation, taking risks, giving up the stuff of earth for the riches of heaven.
    • Fear pressures you, conforms you, makes you into a robot, a lifeless zombie
    • 2 Timothy 1:7, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of sound mind.” (NKJV)
    • God’s vision: A life of faith
    • Obedience: Replacing our fear with God’s vision of a faithful life.
  • Wall of Unbelief
    • “See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.  We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.”
    • Unbelief is one of the biggest reasons for a shallow faith.
    • God’s vision: a life turned towards him.
    • Obedience: Encourage one another (Why Go Groups are important)
  • Wall of Shame
    • Today’s shaming culture <>
    • You carry shame
    • “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” Romans 10:11
    • God’s vision: Living with no shame
    • Obedience: Believe! Jesus took on your shame and displayed it to the world.
    • Obedience is holy anticipation.
  • Wall of Sin:
    • “It’s your sins that have cut you off from God.” IS 59:2
    • A wall you cannot scale
    • God’s vision: To completely forgiven and free of sin
    • Obedience: Faith, repentance, baptism
      • Submitting to the work Jesus did for you on the cross
    • God waits in holy anticipation for everyone to turn to him.
  • Joshua saw and obeyed.
  • when Joshua’s obedience crossed with God’s faithfulness to his vision the wall came down! You obey in holy anticipation of God’s faithfulness to you.
  • Obedience is holy anticipation of God’s faithfulness towards you.




TIME OF COMMITMENT: The wall of sin between you and God.  Jesus tore it down!
