    • Worshipping Jesus without question seems just wrong

Bible: Hebrews 1:5-9, Why is Jesus Better?

  • Jesus is the Son of God
    • Read Hebrews 1:5
      • Psalm 2, Messianic Ps
      • No one else is given this title
    • Lessor God cause of the title “”
      • Way of explaining God could be in heaven & earth at the same time.
      • Ancient World: Father not bestow name to Son until he is ready.
        • Expected to carry out the Father’s business. (Jesus- It is finished)
        • God approved of Jesus at his birth, baptism, resurrection
      • No other religious leader has this title (Buddha, Mohamed, Abraham, etc)
        • We did not bestow this title on Jesus, God did.
        • Jesus is more than a friend <> He is superior- The Son of God!
      • Jesus is the first-born
        • Read Hebrews 1:6-7
        • Why do angels worship Jesus- he is first-born.
        • ILL: Ancient Jews believed Angels encouraged to worship Adam, but didn’
          • But the angels worship Jesus (Birth)
          • “I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” Revelation 5:11-12
        • Being first-born is a special status (not birth order)
          • Chief-one, power, might, strength, the right to give orders.
          • “He is the .. head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the first-born from the dead.” Colossians 1:8
          • Who else has resurrected? No one!  (Jairus daughter, Lazarus)
        • Jesus is superior (sovereign)

            • Psalm 45, How quickly these Jews applied the Psalms to Jesus! Why?

            • God calls Jesus God.

              • Apostles, “He (God) appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.” 1 Timothy 3:16
            • Jesus not part of the known world, but superior to it.
              • “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

Application: Hebrews 13:15

    • Verbs, “continually, sacrifice, profess (confess)
  • Continually
    • Not just a Sunday thing or when you pop in a Passion CD
    • Worship involved your whole body
    • “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Romans 12:2

  • Sacrificially
    • Worship is not casual
    • APP: Our facility lends itself to being casual <>
      • Our purpose is “not” for coffee and donuts
    • “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24
    • Acts 2: Worship so powerful thousands came (small church)
      • 3000 gave their lives to Jesus
      • Why the conversions, because the people felt the presence of God. His people were worshipping!
      • We cannot afford to worship with a casual mindset!
    • Profess / Confess
      • Def: Move your lips!
      • You sing out of reverence to Christ (not because you can or cannot)
      • Profess = telling the world the incredible nature of God!
        • This is what are songs say!
        • Psalms, “I will give thanks to the Lord according to his righteousness, and will sing praise to his name most high.” Psalm 7:17
      • APP: Easter > Many Guests with us Easter > will they see people worshipping passionately Jesus who defeated death?
    • Jesus is worthy to be worshipped because he is better.
      • Son of God, first born of the dead, and superior
      • Let us worship him continually, sacrificially, professing his name!
