10 Things You Need to Know about Money

As a Christ follower it is important to have your finances in order.  Why?  If your finances are not in order you will not be able to take up on the opportunities God throws your way.  You will be limited in the life God has for planned for you.

  1. Broke people often avoid God’s teaching on money.  If you are in debt then chances are you will avoid talks about Biblical finances.  Too often, the debt load we carry keeps us from the Biblical teaching on promises,  tithing, and generosity.
  2. If you are in debt, get out of debt.  The most common way to get out of debt is to use the snowball method.  The snowball method is where you pay off your smallest debt first, and then use that money to pay your next smallest debt, and so on.
  3. Pay Extra on Your Mortgage.  Any amount you pay above your payment goes directly to your principle, which shortens the life of your loan and saves you money!
  4. Plan for Financial Freedom.  Proverbs 21:5 says, “Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.”
  5. You and your wife must work together.  Get on the same page and discuss your financial values.
  6. Pay off your credit cards.
  7. Get a quote on your auto and home insurance- sometimes you can save money!
  8. Pay attention to your interest rates on loan and investments.
  9. Save for unexpected expenses.  Don’t use your credit card to cover when things go bad!  Be prepared!
  10. Plan your Generosity.  God loves a cheerful giver!  When you plan your giving you are able to be cheerful because you are achieving a goal.
