When your walk with Jesus gets going keep in mind why you are walking. Great Christians have a point of view. Walking with Jesus is not a mere blessing or some answered prayer. You have to believe in Jesus. I mean believe. You need to have a backbone. You need to know that you are willing to fight for your divine relationship. And then you need to show the world.
A strong stand is how you become a superfan of Jesus. In Ephesians 6:10 Paul is instructing us to put on the full armor of God so that we might take a STAND against the devil’s schemes. Why not fight against the devil’s schemes? That’s because the battle belongs to the Lord, not us.
A strong walk with Jesus isn’t free. Jesus purchased you with his blood. As a result your relationship with Jesus will turn some people off. They’ll accuse you of being arrogant and aloof and judgmental. That’s life. For everyone who loves you, there will be others who hate you. If no one is upset by the walk you have with Christ then you’re probably not following as strongly as you can. Peter tells us not to be surprised if we suffer for our faith. (1 Peter 4:12)
Lots of people hate Christians because they don’t understand the sacred treasure that has been entrusted in our hearts of clay. They can feel insulted and offended if we refuse to back off of our faith in him. But the scriptures tell us to rejoice when we suffer for Christ’s sake, so that we may be overjoyed when he returns. (1 Peter 4:13) In fact Peter says, “If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.” 1 Peter 4:14 (NIV 84)
Our line in the sand is the Gospel message and that all authority has been given to Christ above the earth, the earth, and below it.
When you don’t know what you believe, everything becomes an argument. Everything is debatable. But when you stand for Christ and Christ alone- decisions are obvious. All those gray areas that get debated in your life can be resolved with one question. “Will this help or hinder my belief in Jesus Christ?” Which way is it pulling you?
I think of one of the martyrs of our faith, who was burned at the stake for not backing off her faith, when she said, “I am a Christian, and with us no evil finds a place.”
